Sawaya Segalas Expands its Consumer Practice in the Food and Beverage Sector
December 3, 2012 — NEW YORK — Sawaya Segalas, a leading investment bank serving clients in the consumer industry, announced today that Pedro Garcia has joined the firm as a Managing Director to spearhead its advisory efforts in the food and beverage segments of the consumer industry.
Mr. Garcia brings more than twenty years of consumer-related transaction experience to Sawaya Segalas, including M&A and financings. Fuad Sawaya, Co-Founder and Managing Director of the firm, said, “We are extremely pleased to have Pedro join our team. Pedro brings with him an impressive track record of successfully advising family businesses, corporations and private equity firms across the consumer industry, with particular emphasis in the dynamic natural and ethnic food and beverage segments. I am confident that Pedro will add a new dimension to our practice and will complement the high quality advisory services that clients have come to expect of Sawaya Segalas.”
Before joining Sawaya Segalas, Mr. Garcia was a Partner and Managing Director at Hadley Partners Incorporated where he distinguished himself by providing strategic and transactional advice to high growth and established companies throughout the food industry supply chain. He began his career at Chemical Securities Inc. (now J.P. Morgan Chase) and also previously worked in the Investment Banking groups at Credit Suisse First Boston and BT Alex. Brown (now Deutsche Bank).
Some of Mr. Garcia’s notable past advisory assignments include Earth Fare, LLC in its sale to Monitor Clipper Partners, Spectrum Organic Products in its sale to the Hain Celestial Group, Annie’s Naturals in its sale to Homegrown Naturals, Señor Rico/Flan Rico in its sale to Lakeview Farms, and Catterton Partners in its acquisition of Van’s Natural Foods.
“I’m excited to join the Sawaya Segalas team because of their strong commitment to cultivating long-term relationships by offering the most thoughtful and unbiased advice to clients. The food industry supply chain is facing significant shifts as consumer purchasing paradigms continue to evolve and fragment. We are therefore witnessing a greater need by business owners and investors alike to understand these dynamics within a value-driven context. Given our collective track record and sector expertise we are in a great position to further strengthen the Sawaya Segalas consumer franchise,” said Pedro Garcia.
Mr. Garcia received an A.B. from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson of School of Public and International Affairs. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Frontier Natural Products, a leading organic foods company, and a member of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund’s Northeast Advisory Board.
